Why We Spell Our Name "Hayes"
Why not Hayse, etc.
My Aunt Nancy Hamm has told me that when she was a child in school our family name was spelled "Hays".
She said one day the school teachers told the family that they were spelling their name wrong. They said it should be spelled "Hayes". Aunt Nancy said we've been spelling it "Hayes" ever since.
If the spelling of "Hays" was improper they should send these same teachers to Hays, Kansas and teach them how to spell too! Well, that would probably be impossible as Aunt Nancy is over 70 years old and all of her teachers from grade school are certainly deceased. We need a new batch of teachers who know what they are doing. We need to send them all around the country correcting all the weird spellings of the name "Hayes". That or tell me how to correct 55 years of misspelling my name on all my legal documents. That would take a lot of money. It's good that these teachers are dead. I mean, think of the malpractice suit they are avoiding.
Uncle Roy never did learn how to spell the name right. He spelled it Hays until he died, sometime in his seventies. Of course he was a fair bit older than Aunt Nancy and did not have the benefit of a more modern education!
Maybe we need to educate the education system. They sound like the dumb ones. Always question what you learn in school. After all, it may be WRONG!
